The Stowage Space package provides a variety of organisational aids. It comprises a spectacles compartment in the overhead control unit, a stowage box under the front seats, luggage nets on the driver and passenger seat backrests, in the rear footwells and to the right and left in the luggage compartment as well as under the parcel shelf. The package is rounded off with a practical 12-volt socket in the luggage compartment.

The Anti-theft alarm system (ATA) with tow-away protection and interior monitoring can emit a warning in the event of theft and unauthorised entry, as soon as the system is activated via remote control.

The Dynamic Handling package comprises sports suspension with lowering function of 15 millimeters and a Direct-Steer system with speed-dependent steering support and variable steering ratio. It boosts driving dynamics through sportier and more dynamic handling in bends and improved driving stability at higher speeds.

The sports suspension is fitted with harder front and rear axle springs. The Direct-Steer system ensures precision handling and reduces steering requirements considerably - for example, on tight bends or when reversing into a parking space - through a more direct ratio. On the other hand, straight-line stability at high speeds is particularly good. In this way both vehicle agility and steering comfort are improved. The power assistance is provided electromechanically and increases in line with speed.

The Light and Sight package improves the visibility of the vehicle and increases the high-class appeal of the interior.

With its select fittings such as a black radiator grille with chrome trim, black painted exterior mirror and dark tinted glass from the B-pillar backwards, the Night package gives expression to the vehicle's inmistakeable and sportily expressive character in classy high-gloss black. It builds on the elements of the Style, Urban and AMG Sport design and equipment lines and enhances them with additional or other elements.

The Smoker package provides two conveniently positioned ashtrays and a cigarette lighter in the vehicle. The cigarette lighter also serves as a 12V socket. The package takes the place of the front and rear stowage compartment.

The Seat Comfort package improves seat comfort on journeys of all lengths, even longer ones, by providing the seats with more options for ergonomic individualisation and for adjustment to the desired seat position. The package includes height adjustment for the front-passenger seat and seat cushion inclination adjustment for both front seats as well as a specific seat design.

The Mirror package includes electrically folding exterior mirrors. The interior mirror and driver’s side exterior mirror also dim automatically. The exterior mirrors are electrically folded in and out again using a button within easy reach of the driver.

An automatic function can be programmed via the multifunction steering wheel so that the exterior mirrors are folded in automatically when the vehicle is locked. The mirrors fold out again when the vehicle is unlocked and the driver’s door is opened. Both the interior mirror and driver’s-side exterior mirror feature sensors which measure the light intensity on the mirror compared to the ambient light. If a significant difference is detected between the two values, the mirrors are automatically dimmed.

The Lane Tracking package assists the driver in arriving safely and stress-free at his destination. It comprises the assistance systems of Lane Keeping Assist and Blind Spot Assist systems. The combination of these systems significantly enhances safety and ride comfort.

Lane Keeping Assist can warn the driver if the vehicle begins to leave its lane unintentionally. A series of three vibrations of the steering wheel, imperceptible to the other vehicle occupants, serves as the warning signal. The system can recognise manoeuvres during which the driver leaves the lane intentionally - when cutting a corner, for example - and will not issue a warning unnecessarily.

The Blind Spot Assist can detect other vehicles in the poorly visible area directly next to and behind the vehicle using two radar sensors. If a vehicle is detected in the blind spot, a red triangle appears in the exterior mirror. Should the driver nevertheless activate the indicator, despite this visual warning, an audible warning is also triggered. The system is active at speeds between 30 and 250 km/h. Under 30 km/h a yellow triangle indicates that the system is inactive.

The newly developed 7G-DCT dual clutch transmission combines comfort, sportiness and economy in a unique manner. The 7G-DCT automatic transmission is an automated 3-shaft dual-clutch manual transmission. It has seven speeds and two sub-transmissions, each with its own clutch. Thanks to the two sub-transmissions, changes to the next higher or lower gear are immediate and with no loss of tractive power.

Active Parking Assist makes a major contribution to safe and comfortable driving. It helps drivers find a suitable parking space for parallel parking and helps them to park by active steering intervention. The integrated PARKTRONIC can warn drivers if there are hidden obstacles in front of or behind the car. Active Parking Assist uses two ultrasonic sensors in the front bumper to identify suitable parking spaces when the vehicle is travelling at up to 36 km/h.

The automatic parking space search function is indicated by a "P" symbol in the instrument cluster. If Active Parking Assist has found a parking space, an arrow appears next to the "P". By default, Active Parking Assist searches for parking spaces on the right-hand side of the road. If the indicator on the driver's side is active, parking spaces on the left-hand side are also detected

The driver starts the parking manoeuvring process by stopping ahead of the indicated parking space, selecting reverse and confirming the prompt which appears in the instrument cluster. Active Parking Assist then takes over the steering at up to 10 km/h. The driver only has to operate the clutch (in vehicles with manual transmission) and the accelerator and brake. The parking manoeuvre is completed in a maximum of 5 moves. The final parking move is indicated by the message "Parking Assist complete" in the display. This message is accompanied by an acoustic signal.

The automatic child seat recognition system detects child seats with a transponder from the Mercedes-Benz accessories range and automatically deactivates the front passenger airbag.

An aerial integrated in the front-passenger seat sends signals. Transponders in the special child seat models from the Mercedes-Benz accessories range detect these signals and send a feedback signal. Based on this feedback signal, the automatic child seat recognition system deactivates the front-passenger airbag, regardless of whether the child seat is installed facing the front or rear. An indicator lamp lights up to confirm that the airbag has been deactivated. The belt tensioner and the other airbags on the front-passenger side – such as sidebags (combined thorax-/pelvisbags) or a windowbag – remain active in order to protect the child. The front-passenger airbag is reactivated automatically after the child seat has been removed.

DISTRONIC PLUS helps the driver automatically maintain a specified distance from the vehicle ahead and helps minimise the risk of rear-end collisions by identifying potentially dangerous situations and reacting accordingly. As the sensors can operate between 0.2 and 200 metres the system is also helpful in city traffic or stop-and-go traffic. It can brake the vehicle to a standstill if necessary and also accelerate it again, if confirmed by the driver.

In stop-and-go traffic, DISTRONIC PLUS applies the brakes automatically – if necessary, until the vehicle comes to a complete stop. Automatic braking is applied with a deceleration of up to 4 m/s²When the traffic situation improves, DISTRONIC PLUS automatically accelerates back up to the preset speed if the driver presses briefly on the accelerator or flicks the cruise control lever.

If DISTRONIC PLUS identifies that heavy braking is required, an intermittent warning tone is sounded and a warning symbol lights up on the instrument panel. This alerts the driver to pay close attention and apply the brakes if necessary. To move off again after coming to a complete stop, the driver only needs to pull the cruise control lever or tap the accelerator.

The Intelligent Light System – as an active component of the safety concept – ensures the best possible visibility in all weather conditions and the most diverse traffic situations. With oncoming traffic, illuminated road users, on bends, in fog or on free stretches of road, the system adapts to the situation and adjusts the characteristics of the light individually to that situation.

The optional front fog lamps provide better illumination of the road surface in bad weather. They are located in the front apron and, together with the standard-fit rear fog lamps, provide a complete safety concept when visibility is very poor.

When the PRE-SAFE® system detects the typical risks of an accident, it can activate preventive safety systems depending on the driving situation and vehicle equipment. These can help to reduce the risk of injury to the vehicle occupants.

The PRE-SAFE® system is able to recognise an impending accident because it represents a synergy of active and passive safety features unique to this vehicle class:it systematically accesses the sensors of existing systems such as ESP® or BAS their sensors are able to detect typical critical driving situations and provide the appropriate information to the PRE-SAFE® system, thereby enhancing the standard safety systems.

Examples include the securing of the driver and front passenger in their seats at an early stage by electric belt tensioners to prevent undesirable body movements; or the almost complete closure of the side windows and sliding sunroof to protect occupants from any objects entering the vehicle.

The reversing camera is switched on automatically when reverse gear is engaged. It helps the driver during linear and lateral parking manoeuvres. Static and dynamic guide lines show the driver the steering angle and distance. The reversing camera is integrated in the tailgate handle and monitors the area directly behind the vehicle.

Through a new look with digital image transfer and additional electronic zoom functions, an optimum image is ensured in all driving situations. When manoeuvring, the driver can select the "back-in" mode, in which dynamic guide lines indicate the relevant path of the vehicle.

If the vehicle is fitted with a trailer coupling, a further mode is made available. The driver is initially assisted, in "Back-in" mode, in backing up towards the drawbar properly aligned through the marking of the middle of the axle. Once he is close to the trailer, "Zoom mode" enables him to align the vehicle with absolute precision. The driver is helped by a dynamic guide line which shows the path of the trailer coupling at the every steering angle.

The sidebags in the rear are stored behind the wheel arch lining. When they are deployed during a side collision they provide potential protection for the chest area of the rear-seat passengers.

They are triggered when the central control unit and the side satellite sensors register acceleration or deceleration forces acting on the vehicle in excess of a certain threshold. The sidebags deploy at chest height between the vehicle side and the occupant.

The Audio 20 CD provides entertainment and can be optionally equipped with the Becker® MAP PILOT navigation system and an integrated CD changer for 6 discs.

With the Becker® MAP PILOT it is possible to upgrade the Audio 20 CD radio, fitted as standard, to a full-function navigation system. The control unit can be secured and connected in the glove compartment in just a couple of simple steps, and can be removed at any time.

Overview of functions and equipment:

The COMAND Online multimedia system (optionally supplied with a 6-disc DVD changer) is the highlight of the new telematics generation. It features an internet browser, combines all audio, telephone and navigation functions, and in addition includes the Speed Limit Assist system. The optimised control concept makes operation more user-friendly and intelligent than ever before.

Components of the COMAND Online multimedia system:

Speed Limit Assist uses an integrated camera to identify the speed limits on road signs and show the permitted maximum speed on the central display. The system also compares identified speed limits against the data stored in the navigation system.

In order to establish an internet connection, an internet-capable mobile phone with Bluetooth® interface is required.

The Controller on the centre console is a component of the Audio 20 CD and the COMAND Online multi-media system. Its fulfils the function of a manual-electronic interface between the user and the respective control units. The systems are controlled with ease pressing, turning and tilting the round "control master device".

The digital radio (DAB) receives terrestrial digital radio stations via a roof aerial. This gives the user better reception quality, a larger choice of stations and more precise information. Switching between analogue and digital reception is automatic, according to signal strength. The DAB tuner supports not only DAB signals but also the DAB+ and DMB standards.

With the Mercedes-Benz Drive Kit for the iPhone®, an iPhone® 4/4S can be connected to the radio's Audio 5 USB. The holder, which can be adjusted to suit personal preferences (iPhone® in vertical or horizontal position), is located on the instrument panel and holds the phone securely.

With it, it is possible to operate the iPhone® as well as access contacts names and numbers through the navigation and audio hardware in the vehicle. Options such as volume control and track selection can be managed via the steering wheel buttons. At the touch of a button, calls can be received or rejected and voice-operated dialling can be initiated. In this way the driver keeps his eyes n the road at all times.

The Drive Kit Plus for the iPhone® links your iPhone® 4 or 4S to your A-Class, providing a new user interface with revolutionary graphic design and clear, red illuminated symbols.

Available free of charge from the Apple® iTunes® store, the Digital DriveStyle app allows you to access key content on your iPhone safely when driving. Easily visible on your COMAND Online or Audio 20 display, the app is straightforward to operate using the controller on the centre armrest. With a flat menu structure and magnified view to suit the vehicle, content is divided into "Social", "Media" and "Places" categories for quick access to functions. There is an interface in the glove compartment for connecting and charging your iPhone®.

Overview of Digital DriveStyle app functions:

The Harman Kardon® Logic 7® surround sound system with Dolby Digital 5.1 and an output of 500 watts turns every journey you make into an acoustic experience.

Twelve high-performance speakers, the 9-channel DSP amplifier and the Logic 7® multi-channel surround sound technology provide a three-dimensional sound impression. The automatic volume control adapts the sound in line with the car’s current speed.

All you need for convenience telephony is the Mercedes-Benz head unit with screen, a compatible mobile phone and a cradle to connect your phone to the exterior aerial via a fixed interface in the centre console.

The integrated Bluetooth® interface allows wireless interaction with a compatible mobile phone. The functions of your phone can be accessed via the screen. Incoming text messages can also be displayed here. And if you want to make a call, you can select your contact safely and intuitively using the control unit.

The optimised Media Interface, including the consumer cable kit, provides a solution for connecting portable media players in the centre console which cannot be connected via the standard USB mass storage device.This includes the iPod® und iPhone® as well as media players with Media Transfer Protocol (MTP), for example, from Creative, Philips, Sandisk, Samsung or Sony. The system makes it easy to read additional information such as track title, album, artist etc. (where available) on the vehicle's main display.

Once the portable media player has been connected, the following functions are available:

The digital ViaMichelin travel guide, which includes the ViaMichelin restaurant guide, is an optional extra with the COMAND Online multimedia system and is available in five languages covering 36 European countries. It gives extensive information on restaurants, hotels, points of interest and tourist routes.

The search function makes it easy and quick to locate POIs (points of interest) nearby or at the destination. Grading symbols from the ViaMichelin help the user to select restaurants, hotels, points of interest and tourist routes. The software also provides other multimedia information (audio files, images and texts) on the ViaMichelin POIs. The travel guide contents can be updated free of charge via the Mercedes-Benz portal.

The Bluetooth® telephone module with SAP profile is an enhancement to comfort telephony. It enables a mobile phone to be connected through the Bluetooth® SAP profile (SIM access profile) or for it to be directly operated by inserting the SIM card in the built-in SIM card reader.

The functions at a glance:

The ball neck in the trailer coupling can be folded by means of a folding mechanism behind the rear bumper, thereby saving space. The folding mechanism is unlatched in the luggage compartment. In conjunction with COMAND Online and the reversing camera, a special camera resolution and an additional guide line are available which enable the driver to hitch up the trailer without the need for help from a third party.

The panoramic sliding sunroof creates a transparent surface area twice the size of conventional sliding glass sunroofs and creates an interior with a particularly bright and friendly ambience.

It consists of a fixed panoramic glass roof and an electrically operated glass sunroof which slides over the exterior of the roof. The transparent surface area is very large and lets in plenty of light. When the sunroof is opened using the switch, the wind deflector is first raised. Then the sunroof is raised upwards and slid backwards over the fixed glass roof section at the rear. In addition, there is a motorised sunblind.

In the event of pressure loss, the reinforced tyre side wall takes over the tyre's supporting function, thus increasing the distance that can be driven when the tyre is flat. Generally referred to as run-flat tyres, these tyres are also called self-supporting tyres. The side wall contains special rubber pads.

In the event of pressure loss, the stiff side wall of the tyre takes over the tyre's supporting function. The maximum speed when the tyres are deflated is 80 km/h, while the maximum distance that can be driven is limited to 80 km with driver only and 30 km when fully loaded. These distances are increased if the tyre is only partially deflated. The tyres have side markings for identification purposes.

The washer nozzles and hoses of the windscreen washer system are heated, which means that they are better protected against icing up. This allows the windscreen to be cleaned more effectively at low temperatures.

The rear side windows behind the B-pillar and the rear window are of dark-tinted single-layer safety glass. The tinted glass shields the rear passenger compartment and luggage compartment from prying eyes, reduces the degree to which the rear occupants are exposed to direct sunlight and gives the car an even more elegant air.

The 4-way lumbar support improves seating comfort and ergonomics. The backrest curvature can be individually adjusted to meet the needs of the driver and front passenger, promoting an ergonomic seating position. Two air cushions are integrated in the backrests of both front seats. Via two control valves they can be inflated or deflated as required, facilitating individually tailored support for the lumbar spine. The height of the air cushions is also adjustable. Lumbar support adjustment is carried out by means of a 4-way switch on the outside of the seat cushion.

The rear armrest is easy to fold up; and it containers a cup holder. In addition, when the armrest is folded up, a through-loading feature through to the luggage compartment for the transport of bulky items allows more scope for organising space.

The electric settings for the front-passenger seat with memory function make frequent changes of front passenger more convenient. The seat, backrest and head restraint positions are all electrically adjustable and can be saved in three settings (not available in conjunction with sports seats). With intuitive operation and ergonomic switches the best possible seat position can be selected as quickly as possible.

The driver's seat and backrest can be adjusted electrically via controls in the door panel. The settings can be saved in 3 programs and called up again at any time. Additionally the head restraint can be adjusted for height, giving the best possible fit (not available in conjunction with sports seats).

With the THERMOTRONIC luxury automatic climate control, you and your front passenger can set individually preferred temperatures at any time. The system also takes outside parameters into account, including temperature, humidity, and the intensity and angle of incidence of the sun’s rays. A dust filter and an activated charcoal filter make sure that pollutants remain outside, as far as possible. Sensors also register the quality of the outside air. If it falls below a certain level, the ventilation flaps are automatically closed.

THERMOTRONIC is an extension of the standard-specification air conditioning system. As well as taking into account influencing factors such as the sun's intensity, air quality, humidity of the outside air taken in etc., the temperature and air distribution for multiple zones (driver and front passenger) can be individually controlled. A sophisticated sensor system enables automatic control of the interior air conditioning requirements: as the sun's intensity increases, the solar sensor adjusts the fan speed and temperature to maintain the set temperature.

The comfort multifunction steering wheel, which is covered in nappa leather, gives you comprehensive access to a variety of telematics and vehicle functions/settings. All the information relevant to the vehicle/journey is shown in the instrument cluster display. The multifunction steering wheel has 12 function buttons and an 11.4 cm display in the instrument cluster.

The 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel with 12 function buttons and display in the instrument cluster is operated via two keypads on the steering wheel. The left-hand keypad is used to operate the menus, while the right-hand keypad controls the audio and telephone telematics functions. The "Settings" menu allows the driver to adjust various parameters, such as light and instrument cluster settings. Optional extras which are not fitted in the vehicle are skipped

The right-hand buttons on the multifunction steering wheel in the instrument cluster can be used to select other settings. For example, the buttons "pick up phone" or "hang up phone" can be used to accept, end or reject a phone call, and the +/- volume controls also control the volume for the radio and voice instructions

The electric seat heating allows for multi-level individual heating of the front seats. The pushbutton control for each seat can be set to normal or rapid heating. In the rapid heating setting, the system automatically changes to "normal" mode after approx. 5 minutes. The seat heating is automatically switched off completely after around 30 minutes, or it can be also be switched off manually at any time. Seat heating is also switched off automatically if the battery charge is too low.

The auxiliary heater provides pleasant temperatures and removes ice from the windows even before the journey begins – and on frosty days. The heater has an output of five kilowatts and functions independently of the engine. It can be activated with a switch in the vehicle, using remote control from a distance of up to 300 metres or via a timer function.
