

The new 4-cylinder E 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY in-line engine is more powerful, quieter and has lower consumption than comparable earlier models. Its maximum torque of 500 Nm is available even at lower engine speeds between 1600 and 1800 rpm. If required the engine can generate an output of 150 kW (204 hp). This is due to the use of the fourth generation common-rail technology with an injection pressure increased to 2000 bar plus the highly precise piezo injectors – they make it possible to very quickly and finely dose the quantity of fuel injected. In addition there are two Lanchester balancer shafts which contribute significantly to the smooth running characteristics of the new engine.

Impressive performance figures characterise the E 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY. With six cylinders the engine achieves an output of 170 kW (231 hp) and a maximum torque of 540 Nm, even at an engine speed range of between 1600 and 2400 rpm – the ideal conditions for spontaneous sprints. At the same time the engine works cleanly and economically, with help from the quick and precise piezo injectors and the injection pressure of up to 1600 bar. The engine also meets the EU 5 emission limits and the standard-fit particulate filter makes a further significant reduction in soot emissions.
