The new BlueDIRECT engines for the new SL Roadster are just right for giving unadulterated roadster driving pleasure. They are optimally tuned to meet the requirements of this type of vehicle.

The new 6 and 8–cylinder engines deploy cutting–edge technology and combine smooth running characteristics with ecological efficiency and the ultimate in agility and driving dynamics.

The high–performance engine of the new SL 63 AMG is built to deliver dynamic performance while neglecting neither economy nor ecology. It offers breathtaking acceleration and outstanding performance for the most demanding driver.

6–cylinder petrol engine: SL 350 BlueEFFICIENCY The innovative BlueDIRECT V6 engine that powers the SL 350 BlueEFFICIENCY was developed using lightweight materials consistently. It features spray-guided direct petrol injection with piezo injectors, four valves per cylinder and adjustable intake and exhaust camshafts. Through these future–oriented technologies a maximum of performance and efficiency can be achieved. Efficient combustion: spray–guided combustion with high–pressure injection via piezo–injectors. Conservation of resources: fuel consumption up to about 29 percent lower than that of preceding model and correspondingly lower CO2 emissions, with increased dynamism. Intelligent efficiency technologies: A reduction in fuel consumption is assisted by a more advanced combustion process, the standard–fit ECO start/stop function, a completely new air and exhaust gas system, regulated auxiliary components, intelligent alternator management and consistent implementation of lightweight construction principles. Motoring enjoyment at every engine speed: with its 225 kW output, the engine delivers powerful acceleration even at low rev speeds, displaying great refinement over the entire speed range. Power can be heard: a special resonance intake manifold ensures a powerful engine sound.
8-cylinder petrol engine: SL 500 BlueEFFICIENCY The BlueDIRECT 8–cylinder engine in the new SL 500 BlueEFFICIENCY Roadster vouches for effortless superiority in every driving situation. A whole series of innovative technologies ensure reduced consumption and significantly higher output, with lower engine displacement. Technological highlights: consistent lightweight construction, moderate downsizing to a displacement of 4.7 litres, direct injection with highly precise piezo injectors. Consistent pulling power: turbocharging with charge-air cooling provide a consistently high output and significantly improved torque. Convincing output figures: with its BlueDIRECT engine, the new SL 500 BlueEFFICIENCY develops impressive 320 kW and a stunning peak torque of 700 Newton–metres. This dynamism, markedly increased over its forerunner model, goes hand in hand with fuel consumption figures up to around 27 percent lower and correspondingly reduced CO2 emissions.
8–cylinder biturbo petrol engine: SL 63 AMG The new SL 63 AMG is powered by the AMG 5.5–litre V8 biturbo engine. This dynamically responsive unit delivers, in conjunction with the AMG performance package, an impressive output of 395 kW and a maximum torque of 800 Nm. The AMG performance package makes a top speed of up to 300 km/h possible. A glance at the torque curve shows: no other engine of this output class can reach the values developed by this new AMG unit. Innovative combination: the output and efficiency boost is brought about by means of innovative high–tech systems, such as for instance petrol direct injection and biturbocharging. Resource–protecting technology: kinetic energy recuperation when braking and in overrun mode, as well as the Controlled Efficiency drive programme with ECO start–stop function ensure efficient progress. Top–level driving dynamics and efficiency: the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7–speed sports transmission features four drive programmes and Race Start function.
12–cylinder biturbo petrol engine: SL 65 AMG The new SL 65 AMG is the most powerful vehicle of the current model series thanks to the AMG 6.0–litre V12 biturbo engine, the unit features excellent output figures and sophisticated innovative technology. Modern technologies: The high–performance engine, with ECO start–stop function, ensures perfect running smoothness with its 12 cylinders. Sheer motor sports feeling: the top–level unit delivers 462 kW and a maximum torque of 1000 Nm, which it reaches already at 2300 rpm. It delivers this maximum torque level from 2300 to 4300 rpm. High driving dynamism and efficiency: the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G–TRONIC automatic transmission features four drive programmes.
