A smooth operator on all surfaces

The three-link front axle makes a key contribution to relaxed driving and safe vehicle control. The rear axle is air-sprung and equipped with a level control system to ensure consistent ground clearance and suspension comfort irrespective of vehicle load.

AMG limited-slip rear differential[1] The AMG limited-slip rear differential improves traction, in particular when driving in a sporty manner In case of differences in the rotational speeds of the driven wheels, the torque is sent to the wheel with better traction to reduce slip.
AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with adjustable damping system, including rear axle level control[2] The AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension offers a high level of vehicle dynamics or the long-distance comfort the brand is famous for thanks to its adjustable electronic damping system. To this end the front axle is equipped with steel spring struts and the rear axle features AMG-specific air springs. The steel spring struts in the front ensure sensitive response, while the rear air spring struts keep the ride height of the vehicle constant thanks to the automatic self-levelling feature. An electronically controlled damping system automatically varies the damping characteristics depending on the driving situation and reduces body lean. The advantages at a glance: Optimal response: the result of the combination of steel suspension on the front axle and air suspension on the rear axle. Flexible adjustment: The three stages "Comfort", "Sport" and "Sport Plus" allow the suspension to be adapted to the desired driving style. Outstanding comfort: better directional stability and up to 50 per cent less body lean as the result of significantly increased spring rates.
DIRECT CONTROL suspension, with comfort tuning[3], [4] The DIRECT CONTROL suspension with selective damping combines both agility and ride comfort. The shock absorbers adjust automatically to the driving situation. The superior damping effect and vehicle stabilisation come into their own on poor road surfaces in particular.
DIRECT CONTROL suspension, lowered with sports tuning (optional)[3], [4] Reduced steering requirement, improved vehicle agility and steering comfort, particularly high straight-line stability at speed, good consumption levels and a sportier look: these are the benefits delivered by the sporty-set-up DIRECT CONTROL suspension with vehicle body lowered by 15 mm (standard for AVANTGARDE, Exterior Sports package and AMG Sports package).
Direct-Steer system with speed-sensitive power steering and variable steering ratio[3] The Direct-Steer system adds to the comfort of speed-sensitive power steering with a variable steering ratio dependent on the steering wheel angle. The vehicle's response to the steering angle becomes more agile and steering requirements are reduced.
The integrated STEER CONTROL steering assistant can support the driver in critical driving situations. The STEER CONTROL assistance system can boost safety by providing corrective intervention in the event of oversteering and braking manoeuvres on unequal road surfaces. The ESP® control unit calculates the additional steering torque required for the respective situation. The electric power assist (EPS) then performs the appropriate steering command. If the vehicle starts to skid, the system can help the driver to countersteer in the right direction with a perceptible pulsation of the steering wheel.
AIRMATIC air suspension with infinitely variable damping control (optional)[5] AIRMATIC provides ride comfort and driving dynamics at the highest level. The air suspension system works in combination with a fully automatic damping adjustment which continually adapts to the driving situation and provides excellent road roar and tyre vibration characteristics even when the road is only slightly bumpy. In addition the vehicle can be raised on poor or unfavourable stretches of road to increase ground clearance. When driving continually at a high speed the vehicle is automatically lowered. This improves handling and reduces wind resistance - an additional contribution to reducing fuel consumption.
