Impressive traction, high driving stability, superior ride comfort: The new E-Class Saloon features sophisticated, interdependent systems which ensure a unique sense of driving pleasure: They combine suspension and damping to optimum effect.

AMG rear-axle differential lock[1] The AMG rear-axle differential lock improves traction, in particular when driving in a sporty manner If there is a difference of speed between the drive wheels, the torque is transmitted to the wheel with better grip in order to reduce slip.
AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with an adjustable damper system, incl. self-levelling rear suspension[2] The AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with its adaptive electronic damping system provides high-level driving dynamics or brand-typical comfort on long journeys.Steel spring struts are used on the front axle, while the rear suspension features AMG-specific air springs. The front-axle steel springs ensure a sensitive response, while the rear air struts with their automatic self-levelling control system keep the vehicle at a constant height independently of the load. An electronically controlled damping system automatically varies the damping characteristics according to the driving situation, as well as reducing body roll. The advantages at a glance: Optimum response: This is guaranteed by the combination of steel suspension at the front and air suspension at the rear. Flexible adaptation: With the three modes: "Comfort", "Sport" and "SportPlus" the suspension can be adjusted to the desired driving style. Outstanding comfort: Greater directional stability and up to a 50 percent reduction of roll angle thanks to significantly increased spring rates.
DIRECT CONTROL suspension, comfort-tuned[3], [4] The DIRECT CONTROL suspension with selective damping combines both agility and ride comfort. The shock absorbers adjust automatically to the driving situation. The superior damping effect and vehicle stabilisation come into their own on poor road surfaces in particular.
DIRECT CONTROL suspension, sporty tuning, lowered (optional)[1], [2] Reduced steering requirement, improved agility and steering convenience, particularly high straight-line stability at speed, good consumption levels and a sportier look: These are the benefits delivered by the sporty-set-up DIRECT CONTROL suspension with vehicle body lowered by 15 mm (standard for AVANTGARDE, Exterior Sports package and AMG Sports package).
Direct-Steer system with speed-sensitive power steering and variable steering ratio[3] The Direct-Steer system adds to the comfort of speed-sensitive power steering with a variable steering ratio dependent on the steering wheel angle. The vehicle's response to the steering angle becomes more agile and steering requirements are reduced.
STEER CONTROL The STEER CONTROL assistance system can boost safety by providing corrective intervention in the event of oversteering and braking manoeuvres on different road surfaces. The ESP® control module calculates the additional steering torque required in every situation. The electric power assistance system (EPS) then executes the corresponding steering command. If the vehicle begins to skid, a perceptible impulse in the steering wheel helps the driver to countersteer in the correct direction.
AIRMATIC air suspension with stepless damper adjustment (optional)[5] AIRMATIC provides ride comfort and driving dynamics at the highest level. The air suspension system works in combination with a fully automatic damping adjustment which continually adapts to the driving situation and provides excellent road roar and tyre vibration characteristics even when the road is only slightly bumpy. In addition the vehicle can be raised on poor or unfavourable stretches of road to increase ground clearance. When driving continually at a high speed the vehicle is automatically lowered. This improves handling and reduces wind resistance - an additional contribution to reducing fuel consumption.
