The new E-Class is especially efficient thanks to its new-generation 4-cylinder engines with direct petrol injection which for the first time power the E-Class. A systematic approach to the development objective – increased output with reduced consumption – was pursued.All the engines offer a successful combination of self-assured agility and top-level economy.

More detailed information:

4-cylinder petrol engines The optimised 4-cylinder 2.0-litre petrol engine, deployed for the first time in the new-generation E-Class, impresses with its top-level output and torque. The tried-and-tested combination of direct injection and exhaust gas turbocharging, coupled with a further-refined combustion process and on-demand controlled ancillaries, help reduce consumption and emission levels even further. The following models are available: E 200 and E 250: State-of-the-art technology: Direct petrol injection optimises the air-fuel mixture, enabling almost complete combustion of the fuel. Variable valve control and turbo charging result in an optimum cylinder charge level. Lower engine weight and less internal friction also contribute to reduction of consumption and emissions. Environmentally safe and performance-oriented: The new 4-cylinder petrol engines meet stringent consumption and emission standards (Euro 6) but still feature outstanding torque, output and noise reduction characteristics. And, thanks to two balance shafts, smooth operation as well. Efficient as standard: The ECO start/stop function is standard for both models.
6-cylinder petrol engines The V6 engines from the BlueDIRECT engine family impress with reduced fuel consumption and correspondingly low CO2 emissions combined with high-level dynamic response. They were developed consistently using lightweight materials and feature spray-guided petrol injection with piezo injectors, four valves per cylinder as well as adjustable camshafts for the intake and exhaust valves. The following models are available: E 300, E 300 4MATIC, E 350 and E 350 4MATIC: Comprehensive conservation of resources: In addition, the energy efficiency of the ancillary assemblies has been improved. As a result, the V6 engines save fuel, reduce CO2 emissions and increase smooth running characteristics. Motoring enjoyment at every engine speed: The engines deliver powerful acceleration even at low rev speeds, displaying great refinement over the entire speed range. ECO start/stop function as standard: It reduces fuel consumption and vehicle emissions by switching off the engine when the vehicle is at a standstill. The ECO display in the instrument cluster provides information about how efficient the driver's driving style is, prompting them to modify their driving style to reduce fuel consumption All-wheel drive: For enhanced road-holding on snow, ice, in the rain and on poor road surfaces, both engine versions (E 300 and E 350) are also available with 4MATIC all-wheel drive. To the point: reduced displacement, two turbo-chargers and increased output combined with reduced emissions and great economy.
8-cylinder petrol engines This powerplant from the BlueDIRECT engine family can offer lower fuel consumption and correspondingly lower emissions than its predecessor. This is thanks largely to the lightweight design, downsizing to a displacement of 4.7 litres, direct petrol injection with exceptionally fast and precisely controlled piezo injectors, and pioneering BlueEFFICIENCY technologies. The following models are available: E 500 and E 500 4MATIC: All-round efficiency: The consistent use of lightweight materials and a reduction of the engine displacement (downsizing) enabled fuel consumption and emission levels more than 20% lower than the predecessor model. The BlueDIRECT V8 engine generation delivers impressive results: A host of technological highlights, such as petrol direction injection, two compact turbochargers and charge-air cooling, generates rapid response characteristics and optimised thermodynamic efficiency. Consistently powerful: The E 500 and the E 500 4MATIC with BlueDIRECT engine develop an output of 300 kW and a maximum torque of 600 Nm. The integrated ECO stop/start system enables you to save fuel when the vehicle is stationaryThe function detects when the engine is not required and automatically switches it off.
AMG V8 biturbo engine The new generations of the E 63 AMG and E 63 AMG 4MATIC are powered by an optimised 410 kW AMG 5.5-litre V8 twin turbocharger engine, which provided powerful pulling force for the preceding model already. The high output unit convinces not only with its effortlessly superior pulling power even at low engine speeds, but also with its exemplary efficiency. Innovative components: The unique combination of high-tech systems, such as direct petrol injection, twin turbochargers, energy recuperation when braking and in overrun mode with the Controlled Efficiency drive mode with ECO stop/start function, ensures an impressive power output and minimum fuel consumption. Performance at motorsport levels: The top-of-the line model, the E 63 AMG S model 4MATIC features an output increased to 430 kW, for a maximum torque of 800 Nm.
